DEALBREAKER
We made a movie. Thank God. We started pre-production in April 2025, and worked tirelessly to get to our shoot on September 13th. Now, as we wrap up post, the enormity of what we did is really dawning on me. Below are some pictures that I took throughout the process, from rehearsal to production to hold onto all these little memories of making a little big movie called Dealbreaker.
Rehearsal
Time to play and time to build our connection as a troupe. It’s funny to look back at these pictures now and think that these people who are now so close to me were strangers not that long ago.
Wardrobe
In the later days of prep, it was time to add another layer of reality to the characters through their clothes. From the beginning, there were colours and symbols that were meaningful for both characters. Tatiana Glovera, our wardrobe designer really took that simple brief and went absolutely insane, creating looks and pulling pieces that added so much to the look of the film and had so many thoughtful nods to who these people were. I moved into a new apartment two weeks before the shoot, so we had to navigate a bunch of boxes and broken down furniture for the fitting, but that’s New York filmmaking for you.
Beauty
A couple days until showtime. Figuring out the beauty looks for both characters with Trang and Chrissy. The film takes place after an important dinner, so figuring out how to give the looks the sense of two people trying to look their best while things were very wrong in their relationship was a super interesting challenge and I think our little team knocked it out of the park.
Location
One of the more dramatic and difficult elements to nail was our location for the shoot. After some stops and starts with picking a final place to film, we ended up shooting at Sunny’s (Producer/Assistant Director) apartment. Major shoutout to Laura our production designer for transforming the space and filling it with so many layers of storytelling.
Production
The Big Game. Months of preparation lead to all this. One of the most insane days, nights and mornings of my life. Kind of like an exorcism in a way. All the personal history, and nervous energy being lifted by having to be so present. I’m so grateful for our crew for their tenacity, passion and generosity. This is only the beginning.
Thank You
If you made it this far, it’s probably because you helped us make the movie. So thank you for your support. I’m excited to share the movie with the world and the world will probably start with you.
